Edina is home to Southdale Center, the first fully enclosed shopping mall in the country, and the Greater Southdale area around it has turned into one of the busiest mixed-use districts in the west metro. Retail, medical offices, new apartment towers and a steady run of construction now share the same few blocks.
Southdale, the Galleria and the shops at 50th and France pull customers from well beyond Edina, and high-end retail draws organized theft for the same reason. A visible, well-trained officer at the door and a clear plan for what happens when someone walks out with merchandise does more than any camera that nobody is watching.
The hospital and clinic campuses around Southdale run long hours, with patients, visitors and staff coming and going late into the evening. Front desk posts, parking lot patrols and escorts to cars after dark are the requests we see most from medical and professional office managers.
The Southdale area keeps adding apartment buildings, and each one goes through months of construction before the first tenant moves in. That means two different needs on the same street: theft prevention and fire watch on the job site, then package rooms, garage access and after-hours patrol once residents arrive.
We cover the Greater Southdale district, 50th and France, the France Avenue corridor, the Highway 100 and I-494 business areas and Edina's apartment and senior housing communities, and the rest of Edina.
